For 100 years, Royal British Legion has been fighting for the armed forces community, which includes serving and ex-serving personnel, veterans and their families. We believe that no-one who has served to protect our freedom should be disadvantaged because of the sacrifices they have made. For some, service comes at a great cost, and daily life becomes an impossible struggle. Every day, the Legion takes calls for help from those who are desperate, on the brink of eviction, or in a crisis situation. By playing the Poppy Raffle, you will help us to be there for those who need us.
We understand the needs of those we support. In particular, we help people with:
- Physical and mental wellbeing - We ensure our serving and ex-serving personnel receive the support they need to recover, physically and mentally. And our nationwide crisis support team is always on hand, on the phone and online, to get people the help they need to get their life back on track.
- Financial and employment Support - We help people to adjust to life after Service by offering guidance on personal finance and finding work. This could mean helping them to manage debt, access benefits, appeal for injury compensation or set up a new home.
- Care and independent living - Our aim is for people in the armed forces community to live out their lives as comfortably and independently as possible. We provide dedicated care homes for older veterans and their families, as well as specialist care and support for those living with and caring for people with dementia.
- Local community connections - We want people in the armed forces community to have a network of support so they can enjoy life and cope with change. That’s why, if someone is finding it difficult to make connections with their community, our members can visit them at home or in hospital.
- Expert guidance - We ensure that serving and ex-serving personnel and their families get the specialist, personalised advice they need to address the issues that affect them. Our trained advisors offer expert guidance, both on the phone and face to face, on a range of issues including housing, war pensions and compensation schemes.
We also fight to improve Government policies, campaigning for changes to legislation to deliver widescale tangible improvements to the Armed Forces community. We are also proud to be the champions of Remembrance. Remembering all those who have lost their lives on active service in all conflicts; from the beginning of the First World War right up to the present day, as well as those who have served and their families.
Royal British Legion is here for the whole of the armed forces community, from the youngest baby to the oldest ex-service person.
